I don't know what took me so long to try The Mission but I should have tried it years ago. We were staying a few blocks away and looked so a place to walk for breakfast and found The Mission was close. The restaurant is in a cute building that looks like a house with indoor and outdoor seating.
I ordered the Mission breakfast with bacon and substituted rosemary bread for the gluten free version which is so excited that that's even an option! My husband ordered the Mission French toast with eggs and bacon. My husband loved every bit of his, the serving size was huge and they make their French toast with a cinnamon bread that you can smell from across the table. My breakfast was equally delicious. The potatoes were crispy and well seasoned, the bacon was thick, and the bread...oh my gosh the bread. Gluten free bread is usually not good. My expectation is always very low and this bread was the best gluten free bread I have ever tasted. They make it in house and it's thick with an amazing texture and rosemary throughout. I loved it so much we walked back the next day just for bread.
The Mission is our new favorite breakfast spot in San Diego. I can't wait to go back. -

I can't believe it took me this long to come here for breakfast.
The food was great and definitely was worth the hype. I know this place was voted best San Diego breakfast for years and why I neglected to come here befuddled me.
My wife ordered the Chorizo con Papas and I had the Mission French Toast. Her chorizo was OUTSTANDING! So many flavors and cooked so well. I will probably order this next time I come so I can have it all to myself.
the French Toast... ALSO OUTSTANDING! They use a cinnamon bread that really complements the dish nicely as it almost tastes like a cinnamon roll.
Both plates were executed and displayed beautifully.
I imagine their other food is great just based on how good these two dishes were.
So why 4 star? I try to give 5 stars for 5 star experiences. I want to leave the place saying "I wouldn't change a thing. The whole experience was amazing". 5 star in my opinion means the food, atmosphere, and accommodations/convenience are all outstanding.
The CONS:
I really have an issue with places where there's no where to park. We got here on a Wednesday around 10:30am and it took us 15 minutes driving around looking for ANY available spot.
My wife and I would probably come here weekly if we lived downtown and didn't have to drive. But to come from Mira Mesa... is it worth the drive and hassle finding parking? Probably not :(
we will most likely go to a different location with better parking options (if possible).
Also, no dig on our waiter but he wasn't helpful at all. We asked what dishes he recommended and he literally said "uh, the pancakes and chorizo". Then smiled and walked away. I guess I was hoping he'd give us a little more detail about his recommendations... something like "the French Toast is great. They use this cinnamon bread that makes it taste like a cinnamon roll. It's really tasty". Because then I would responded with "wow, sounds amazing. I'll have that".
So instead of his thoughtful input, I got my phone out and looked at yelp and what they recommended. Sucks you have to do that because the waiter doesn't offer any useful information.
So a 5 stars for the food and a 3 star for the parking issue and unhelpful waiter.... so a 4 star -

When the signature breakfast ("The Mission Rosemary") is $9, you would think a side of potatoes at $5 would come with less air in the box.
Sadly, over the last month, it keeps happening and I've had it.
If you want to get charged $5 for air-filled potatoes, $4 for heated sausage out of a Costco pack, and wait 45 minutes to do so: this is your place. -

Our party of 4 came in on a Sunday around 830 and waited about 15 minutes for a table. The service was good and our food came out quickly. I ordered quesdillas and added bacon to it which was tasty. Everyone else's meal looked delicious as well and was presented nicely.
I noticed on the menu that there weren't too many options with meat FYI. I'd probably check this place out again just because it's close to where I live and the prices are reasonable too. The inside had a cool feel to it also. -

Looked for a new breakfast spot near my daughter's place in East Village. The Mission has good ratings on Yelp so gave it s try. Didn't disappoint. We hit it at a good time. Place was crowded but we were able to walk right in and find a table. Wait staff efficient, friendly. We had our coffee in no time. I chose the blackberry pancakes. Quite large. The blackberry purée was very delicious. I asked for maple syrup. They also have pure maple syrup which comes in a tiny pitcher for an additional charge. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and our daughter ordered the quesadilla. Food came out quickly and was very good. Good value for the $.
